Description:
Position Overview: Junior Power BI Developer/Analyst
- The role supports the administration, monitoring, and operation of the organization's Power BI and Microsoft Fabric environment under the guidance of senior platform staff.
- Approximately 80% of the role is dedicated to routine administration, first-line support, monitoring, documentation, and operational tasks.
- The remaining 20% involves report development, data preparation, and technical support for report authors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Power BI and Fabric Administration: Perform routine workspace, application, semantic model, dataflow, gateway, and deployment-pipeline administration in accordance with established standards and approved procedures.
- Security and Access Support: Process approved access requests, maintain workspace roles and security-group assignments, assist with application audiences and semantic model permissions, and escalate complex identity or service-principal issues.
- Gateway and Refresh Support: Monitor gateway status and scheduled refreshes, update approved credentials and connection mappings, perform basic connectivity checks, collect diagnostic information, and escalate unresolved failures.
- Monitoring and Operations: Review refresh history, gateway logs, usage metrics, audit information, and capacity alerts. Identify recurring failures, document findings, and support routine operational reporting.
- Automation and Inventory: Run, maintain, and make minor updates to approved PowerShell scripts and REST API processes used for workspace inventory, user access reporting, activity extraction, and administrative data collection.
- Deployment and Lifecycle Support: Assist with development, test, and production deployments, workspace assignments, parameters, data-source connections, content ownership changes, archiving, and workspace lifecycle activities.
- User Support and Documentation: Provide first-line support to report developers and business users. Maintain procedures, support notes, access records, runbooks, and knowledge articles, and escalate complex platform issues to senior administrators.
- Report Development and Technical Support (20%): Create and maintain basic-to-intermediate Power BI reports. Use Power Query, DAX, SQL, relationships, star schemas, and row-level security to troubleshoot or improve existing reports and semantic models.
Eligibility and Requirements:
- Educational Background: A bachelor's degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Software Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent education, certifications, co-op experience, and practical Power BI experience may be considered.
Technical Skills:
- Working knowledge of Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service, Microsoft Fabric, workspaces, applications, semantic models, dataflows, gateways, scheduled refreshes, and access permissions.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID, security groups, service principals, PowerShell, REST APIs, capacity monitoring, DAX, Power Query, SQL, data modeling, and report-performance concepts.
Experience:
- One to three years of relevant experience in business intelligence, data analytics, application support, or Power BI administration.
- Experience supporting Power BI workspaces, refreshes, gateways, users, or production reports through employment, co-op placements, internships, or substantial project work is preferred.
Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300) is preferred or should be obtained within an agreed period after appointment. Microsoft Fabric, Azure, identity, security, or Power Platform certifications are considered assets.
